Palace of Serbia

The Palata Srbije ( Serbian Cyrillic Палата Србије, German: Palace of Serbia ) is the geographically largest building in Belgrade. It is located in the district of Novi Beograd Bulevar Miahajlo between Pupin and the Bulevar Nikola Tesla.

History

Construction of the palace began in June 1947 as one of the first buildings in Belgrade by architect Mihailo Janković. It was completed in 1959. Subsequently, he was the former seat of government, more specifically the " Federal Executive Council " ( Veče Savezno izvršno, hence the common acronym of the building is still frequently SIV) as well as the President. From 1991 to 2003 it was the seat of the Government of SR Yugoslavia and from 2003 to 2006, the seat of the Foreign Affairs and Defense and the President of the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro. During this time, the building was referred to as Palata federacije (Palace of Federations ). After the dissolution of the State Union in May 2006, the building of the Government of the Republic of Serbia remained under. Since then, the common designation Palata Srbije.

Building

The building has a floor area of 5,500 m² and the form of the Latin letter I. It has six salons and a large domed hall, which provides 2000 people. The building is a reinforced concrete structure and provided with a marble facade.
