Palaeoloxodon is an extinct elephant genus, which is sometimes classified in the genus Elephas similar. The most familiar type is the native to North Africa and Eurasia during the ice age European Forest Elephant ( Palaeoloxodon antiquus ). Other types are Palaeoloxodon namadicus and Palaeoloxodon naumanni from East Asia and Palaeoloxodon turkmenicus from Central Asia, both lived around the same time.

The tusks are fairly straight in all species. The shoulder height was of the larger species to about 4 m, but there were also dwarf, island - dwarf elephant species mentioned. These came to the late Pleistocene on the islands of the Mediterranean, tart also in Southeast Asia.
