Palais Coburg

The Palais Coburg is a 1845 unfinished palace in Vienna's 1st district. It is located at the address Coburgbastei 4, where it was built on the Braunbastei, a remainder of the jobs created in the 16th and 17th centuries and looped in the 19th century bastions of Vienna.

History

19th century

The original design from 1839 for the principal Ferdinand Georg August of Saxe- Coburg- Saalfeld- Koháry originated by the Viennese architect Karl Schleps. After his death in 1840, the palace was completed by architect Adolph Korompay in five years of construction. The ground was reached by the marriage of Ferdinand Maria Gabriele Antonie of Koháry in the possession of the Coburg family.

The free- standing columns in the central part of the facade of the building brought in the vernacular at that time the nickname asparagus castle. For levels of all staircases, especially the monumental grand staircase as well as supporting architectural elements, used one white, very hard stone from Kaiser Kaiser quarry.

The palace was not occupied after completion until the revolutionary year of 1848, 1849, relative Augustus of Saxe -Coburg and Gotha and his wife Clementine d' Orléans. They adapted parts of the palace as interest house and rented it. 20th century

1945 damaged bomb hit the building.

In the period from 1945 to 1955, Russian occupation troops were in the Palais Coburg, 1955-1997 ÖBB were rented on 2 floors. The last Coburg owner was Princess Sarah Aurelia, which it indeed lived up to your death in 1994, but in 1978 sold it to reality brokers. After the bankruptcy of the owner, it came into the possession of the land bank, of which it is the Wiener contractor and asset manager Peter Pühringerhütte acquired in 1997.

21st Century

The new owners renovated the palace in the years 2000 to 2003 fully after it was very run down in the past. Today, located next to the offices of companies Pühringers a luxury hotel and restaurant in the Palais Coburg.
