Palais Kuffner

The Palais Kuffner located in the 16th district of Vienna Ottakring, Ottakringerstraße 118-120.

History

The Palais Kuffner consists of two adjacent buildings that were built shortly after the other, but received individual facade. No. 118 was built in the years 1886-88 and No. 120 in the years 1892/93 for the brewery owner Moritz von Kuffner. The plans were drawn by Franz von Neumann and executive builder was Anton Zagorski.

Description

No. 118: A high rusticated base zone reaches up to almost half of the facade. Starting with rectangular, barred basement windows are above a continuous Sohlbankgesims four axes with arched windows, a simple windowsill and plastically highlighted keystones. Arranged side is a round-arched portal with scrolls, timberwork, curly Rundbogenverdachung and the year 1887. From one, reaching to the string course Mittelrisalit emerges a convex segment- arched bay window with baroque- decor. The main floor is alone by the color - terracotta and white - a strong visual accent. The twin side windows are grouped by graded plaster boxes, white window frames with ears, Konsolverdachung and baroque- fall fields. Side pilasters up to the cornice above the dormer, flanked by volutes rise from the saddle roof.

No. 120: This building is distinguished by its vertical tripartite division of sand-colored façade. The rusticated base is graduated in depth. The middle part is dominated by a large arched windows with clasp. The side windows are narrower and have a Dreiecksgiebelverdachung with beautiful wrought iron railings. A segmental arch portal completes the exterior. Emerging pilasters combine the two upper floors together. The double window, surrounded by a stucco frame field, carry on the main floor or the floor above Knickgiebelverdachung curly Segmentgiebelverdachung. The right component acts through his slightly advanced position and the two-storey bay window like a tower, which is exacerbated by the tent roof. The central part carries a high, decorated with scrolls and vases Gable.
