Palamuse Parish

Palamuse is an Estonian rural municipality in the county Jõgeva with an area of 216 km ².

Palamuse was first mentioned in 1234. The rural municipality has 2496 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2010). In addition to the main town Palamuse ( 627 inhabitants) it includes the villages Änkküla, Eerikvere, Ehavere, Imukvere, Järvepera, Kaarepere, Kaiavere, Kassivere, Kivimäe, Kudina, Luua, Mullavere, Nava, Pikkjärve, Praaklima, Raadivere, Rahivere, Ronivere, Sudiste, Süvalepa, Toovere, Vaidavere, Vanavälja, Varbevere and Visusti.

1895-1899 was the Estonian writer Oskar Luts in Palamuse to school, which was later novelistic school memories one of Estonia's most widely read authors. In the former school building is a museum housed on his life and work as well as for Estonian schools end of the 19th century since 1987. Also worth seeing is the church dedicated to the Apostle Bartholomew, one of the oldest stone churches in Estonia, dating from the 13th century. It was rebuilt in the 15th century in Gothic style. The apostle was named for the community Palamuse.
