The Palau Blaugrana ( German Blue Dark Red Palace) is a sports arena in the Spanish city of Barcelona, Catalonia. Inaugurated in October 1971 hall is owned by the FC Barcelona.

History

The arena serves as the venue for the various ball sports teams in basketball, handball, roller hockey and futsal of FC Barcelona. At first she could accommodate 5,696 spectators. After finishing work in the years 1994 and 2007, the hall now has a seating capacity of 7,585 seats.

The Palau Blaugrana is located between Mini Estadi the, home to the junior football team and the world famous Camp Nou, where the first team of the football department discharging their home games.

Apart from the competitions in roller hockey, judo and Taekwando at the Summer Olympic Games in 1992, the arena was, inter alia, Venue of the Tennis Masters Men 1972, the Taekwondo Championship in 1976, the Fencing World Championships in 1985 and the World Judo Championships 1991.

Future

The FC Barcelona plans to build a new Palau Blaugrana for 100 million euros. This gave the club announced at a press conference on September 27, 2012. According to the plan is the successor to 2020, his or sooner if possible, completed. A new hall is important for the basketball team of FC Barcelona to continue to receive the A- license for the ULEB Euro League. A requirement of the license is, inter alia, a venue with at least 10,000 seats.
