Palawan soft-furred mountain rat

The Palawan Rat ( Palawanomys Furvus ) is a rodent species from the group of Altweltmäuse ( Murinae ).

Palawan rats resemble the genuine rats, but are considered to be primitive. They reach a body length 13-16 cm and a tail length of 13-15 centimeters. Her long, thick fur is gray brown on the back and dark brown on the belly. The ears and tail are covered with short hair.

The species is only known from four animals, which were discovered in 1962 on the Philippine island of Palawan. The animals originate from mountainous areas in 1100 to 1400 meters above sea level. About her life one hardly knows anything, it probably are ground-dwelling animals.

Since there is no current information, and the degree of risk is unclear. The IUCN lists the species under "too little data available " ( data deficient ).
