Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana

The Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana ( German: Palace of Italian Civilization ), also known by the nickname Colosseo quadrato, is a building in the EUR, in the 1942 World Expo to be held in Rome. It is also called Palazzo della Civiltà del Lavoro.

The Colosseo Quadrato quadrato is located on the della Concordia and is a neoclassical building with 68 meters in height and 216 round arches over six floors. It should remind us of the Colosseum in Rome. The planned by the architect Ernesto Bruno La Padula, Giovanni Guerrini and Mario Romano building was built in the years 1938 to 1943.

The round arches arise in number perpendicular (6 ) the name and BENITO horizontal (9 ) MUSSOLINI.

On each of the four sides of the square building is on the arcades following sentence to read in Roman capitals: "UN POPOLO poetic DI DI DI ARTISTI EROI DI SANTI DI PENSATORI scienziati DI DI DI Navigatori TRASMIGRATORI ". Translated, this means: " A nation of poets, of artists, of heroes, of saints, thinkers, scientists, sailors, wanderers ".

The building served as the backdrop for the comedy Hudson Hawk - The Thief (1991 ), the film adaptation of Shakespeare's Titus (1999) and for the Italian comedy OK Nero of 1951.
