Palazzo Madama (Turin)

The Palazzo Madama in Turin is a representative city palace, which served the rulers of Savoy as a residence. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Residences of the Royal House of Savoy and now houses an art museum.

History

The palace is located on the territory of the ancient Roman town of Augusta Taurinorum, the city gate, the Porta Decumana of 45 BC, incorporated into the present structure. Duke Filippo of Savoy moved the two towers of the gate in the construction of a fort in the construction of a with. Architecture

Between 1718 and 1721 the palace a new Baroque wing was designed by the court architect Filippo Juvarra in Turin.
