Palilula, Belgrade

Palilula (Serbian Палилула ) is a municipality of Belgrade in Serbia.

The city belongs to the metropolitan area of ​​the capital Belgrade. It has the largest area among the 17 districts and counted according to the 2002 census 155 902 inhabitants.

History

The city dates from the first half of the 18th century, when the Habsburg Monarchy from 1717 to 1739 occupied the northern Serbia. The settlement, built as a suburb of Belgrade, was originally called Charles Town. Since the early 19th century Palilula is predominantly inhabited by Serbs. In the late 19th century Palilula was a part of the continuously built-up area of Belgrade. The city is almost entirely residential area with many commercial establishments.
