Palla Strozzi

Palla Strozzi (c. 1373 in Florence, † May 8, 1462 in Padua ) was an Italian merchant and humanist.

Life

Strozzi belonged to the famous florenzianischen merchant family and was interested in humanistic studies. In 1395 he helped to bring Manuel Chrysoloras to Florence, and studied with him then Greek. He was a great collector of Greek manuscripts, his house made ​​in Florence at a center of Greek studies and opened the first public library of the city. When Cosimo de ' Medici returned from his exile, Strozzi was marketed as supporters of the losing side ( 1434 ). He then lived in Padua, where he continued to support humanities projects, and also died there.
