Palladium ( II) nitrate is the palladium salt of nitric acid.
Production and representation
Palladium ( II) nitrate is obtained by dissolving palladium in a hot, concentrated nitric acid.
Properties
Physical Properties
Palladium ( II) nitrate is a reddish brown powder at room temperature. It is moderately soluble in water and forms a cloudy solution. It is soluble in dilute nitric acid.
Chemical Properties
Palladium (II ) nitrate decomposes on heating. It hydrolyzed in excess water, forming a brown basic salt. It has strong oxidizing, since both the Pd2 ion and the nitrate ion is NO3- oxidizing. By precipitation with caustic soda crystalline palladium (II ) oxide.
Use
Palladium ( II) nitrate is suitable for producing pure palladium.
