Palladius (bishop of Ireland)

Palladius ( † ca 457/461 ) was a missionary bishop in Ireland. He is venerated as a saint. His feast day is July 6.

He was probably first dean at Germanus of Auxerre. He had a wife and a daughter, but he was concerned about 408 under the influence of Pelagianism on to Sicily to lead an ascetic life there. Later he went to Rome, where he may Celestine I to moved, Germanus of Auxerre to send mission to Britain. Palladius himself will have passed his Pelagian intentions. Apparently he is 431 sent to Ireland as a missionary bishop, where he focused on the province of Leinster, during the nearly parallel operating Patrick evangelized in Ulster and Connacht.
