Palle Mikkelborg

Palle Mikkel Borg ( born March 6, 1941) is a Danish jazz trumpeter, flugelhorn player, bandleader, composer and arranger of jazz fusion music, but also of contemporary classical music.

He began playing the trumpet in 1956 ( on which he is self-taught in his own words ) and is since 1960 a professional jazz musician. He took on, among other things with the big bands of Gil Evans, George Russell, Peter Herbolzheimer, with Dexter Gordon, Terje Rypdal, Karin Krog, Jan Garbarek, Gary Peacock, Dino Saluzzi, Abdullah Ibrahim, Trilok Gurtu. With drummer Alex Riel he had from 1967 a quintet, with whom he appeared in the Newport and Montreux and 1970. In the 1970s both had a jazz fusion group called V 8 A highlight of his work his involvement in 1984 at Miles Davis album Aura, which he composed for this ( as an homage to his musical role model, at the presentation of the Danish Léonie Sonning Music Prize in Davis 1984) and its inclusion with the Danish Radio Big Band, he headed. By Niels -Henning Ørsted Pedersen and Kenneth Knudsen he had the trio Heart to Heart. In addition, he leads his own groups and plays with his wife, the Welsh harpist Helen Davies. In addition to jazz and world music flowing in his compositions and arrangements also influences modern classical music (Charles Ives, Olivier Messiaen ).

In 2001 he received the Music Prize of the Nordic Council. In 2003 he was awarded the Danish Django d'Or as a legend of jazz.
