Palm Beach County, Florida

The Palm Beach County is a county located in the state of Florida in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is West Palm Beach. Together with parts of Miami -Dade County and Broward County forms the eastern Palm Beach County, the Miami metropolitan area.

Geography

The county has an area of ​​6181 square kilometers, of which 1068 square miles are water. The water surface is mainly composed of the Atlantic Ocean and Lake Okeechobee. The percentage of the total water area is 17.27 percent. The county is bordered clockwise to the Counties: Broward County, Hendry County and Martin County.

History

The Palm Beach County was formed on 30 April 1909 from the northern part of what was then Dade County. The name goes back to the first town Palm Beach; whose name basis, were the numerous representatives in the palm trees and beaches.

1915, the southern half of the county was used to form the northern part of Broward County.

For the development of the county in the early days of the construction of the railway route from Key West to Jacksonville ( Florida East Coast Railway ) has already made a first important contribution shortly after 1900.

The average annual income was $ 52,951, while 13.3 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2010, English was the mother tongue of 78.36 % of the population spoke Spanish 11.89% and 9.75 % had a different mother tongue.
