Palm Valley (Northern Territory)

Palm Valley is a valley west of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory of Australia in the MacDonnell Ranges.

In the Valley in Finke Gorge National Park, which is only accessible by four wheel drive vehicles over a 16 -kilometer-long runway south of Hermannsburg, is the last population of Marie Palm ( Livistona mariae ). The key to survival water comes from mountain ridges of porous sandstone, which have evolved over millions of years by ongoing erosion to a huge water tank.

Originally from a wetter climate period palm has probably survived for about 20,000 years, only here on the shores of Palm Creek. An Australian- Japanese research team described in March 2012 in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B, the thesis that Australian aborigines could have transported palm seeds into the center of the continent around 15,000 years ago.
