Palmar aponeurosis

The palmar aponeurosis is a tendon plate in the palm of the hand. It is the continuation of the tendon of the long palmar muscle (musculus palmaris longus ). However, this is not present in about 20% of all people. Then the palmar fascia is stretched only from the short palmar muscle (musculus palmaris brevis ). It is also known as palmar aponeurosis palmaris tendon or.

Function

The tensioned palmar aponeurosis has mainly a protective function for the underlying nerves and blood vessels. In addition, it serves the palmaris brevis as the origin and numerous muscles as an approach.

Pathology

A nodular induration ( fibrosis ) with shortening of the aponeurosis and flexion contractures, especially of the ring and little finger is called Dupuytren's contracture. This fibromatosis occurs more often in men in middle age. Risk factors are tobacco and alcohol consumption; occasionally find more fibromatosis.
