Palmaris brevis muscle

The palmaris brevis (Latin for " short palmar muscle " ) is one of the muscles of the hand.

The palmaris brevis is relatively functionless and therefore extremely small in humans. It is involved in the tensioning of the palmar aponeurosis, but is likely to be negligible in this function. Presumably there is this muscle in humans in evolutionary regression. A relevant function of the undergoes muscle in people who do not have a palmaris longus. In this case, the muscle is better developed, as it is now believed to important for the clamping of the palmar aponeurosis.
