Economy

Palmas lives from the processing of agricultural products, which are produced in the area. In addition, the construction industry and trade have meaning. For the settlement of companies there are subsidies. The port of Palma serves as a transportation hub to transport the products of the region to the consumer.

The city is trying to distinguish itself as an environmentally friendly city and to earn additional income in ecotourism. In fact, there are several Palmas to nature reserves, waterfalls in the jungle and beautiful river beaches.

The city is supplied with a specially built hydropower plant, which converted the former Rio Tocantins to a reservoir with power. However, because the infrastructure of the power grid is not perfectly developed, it often comes to power outages in individual city blocks of Palmas.
