Palmyrene dialect

The Palmyrene is a ostaramäischer dialect, which is occupied with one exception only in Palmyra. Dated inscriptions range from 44 BC to 274 AD The only text outside this city was found in Dura Europos. There are over 1000 known inscriptions, which are mostly concerns dedications. The dialect is still reminiscent of the earlier Reichsaramäisch. The Palmyrene is also partly influenced by Arabic. As the names in the city show, lived there many Arabs. The written Palmyrenisch was written in a rounded script, which should show echoes of the Estrangelo later.
