Palo del Colle

Palo del Colle in southern Italy is a municipality ( comune ) with 21 654 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Bari, in Puglia. The village lies on a hill (as is also clear from the name of the community ) about 15 kilometers southwest of Bari on the Strada Statale 96 towards Matera. A railway station on the route Bari - Matera is available here.

History

The area had been colonized Greek Early. The strategic location on the hill made ​​it easier to defend the city from enemies.
