Paloma Picasso

Paloma Picasso ( born April 19, 1949 in Paris, France, born Ann Gilot Paloma ) is a Spanish- French designer.

Life and work

Origin

Paloma is the youngest daughter of the relationship between Pablo Picasso and Françoise Gilot. Her older brother is Claude ( b. 1947 ). She also has two half- siblings Paulo and Maya. Paloma is the Spanish word for dove. This first name chosen by their father to commemorate the dove of peace symbol, since the International World Peace Congress held in Paris in the year of birth of his daughter. In 1953 Gilot ended the relationship with Picasso and devoted himself to her children and painting. In the late 1960s received Paloma and Claude the surname of her father: Ruiz- Picasso, who had married in Vallauris in January 1961 Jacqueline Roque.

Career

Paloma began her career in 1968 as a designer in Paris. One of her first big orders they received from Yves Saint Laurent and 1971 by the Greek company Zolotas that manufactures jewelry. 1980 jewelery designs for Tiffany & Co. joined. Shortly thereafter, jewelry, sunglasses, perfumes, crockery, linen, cutlery, and various textiles and cosmetics were sold under their own brand name. She is the founder of the fashion label Paloma Picasso Lunettes.

Paloma Picasso played the main character Erzsébet Báthory in the episode The Blood Countess in Walerian Borowczyks film Immoral Tales, which was released in 1974.

She was married to Argentine businessman Rafael Lopez- Cambil 21 years. Soon after the divorce, she married the French physician Eric Thevenet. The designer lives in Lausanne, Switzerland since 2001.

Artistic representations of Paloma Picasso

Paloma Picasso is represented in many works of her father, such as Paloma with an Orange and Paloma in Blue. On some paintings she is shown with her brother Claude. In 1980 she had her portrait of Robert Mapplethorpe photographs and 1990 by artist duo Pierre et Gilles.
