Paluweh

The Paluweh (also Rokatenda ) is a 875 -meter-high active stratovolcano on the Indonesian island Palu'e. The island in the Lesser Sunda Islands, which belongs together with the Great Sunda Islands at the northeastern edge of the Indian Ocean to a horseshoe-shaped zone of increased earthquake and volcanic activity.

Outbreaks

An outbreak of Paluweh took place in 1928. In 1964, a protracted outbreak, as a result, 3,000 people were evacuated to the neighboring island of Flores occurred.

Since autumn 2012, the volcano is more active again. An eruption occurred in early February 2013. The ash cloud was about 4,000 feet high and rained on the island from. Parts of the crop were destroyed, many islanders left the island. Another eruption with a 2000 meters high reaching ash cloud occurred on 10 August 2013. This six people were killed and 3,000 people were brought to safety in Flores.
