Panafrican Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou

FESPACO is the French abbreviation for panafricain Festival du cinéma et de la télévision de Ouagadougou, the Pan-African Film and Television Festival, which takes place as the Biennale in Ouagadougou, the capital of the West African country of Burkina Faso.

The film festival was first held in 1969, at that time as Premier Festival de Cinéma Africain de Ouagadougou and not as Semaine du cinéma africain, as is often claimed. This is the former treasurer and founding member of FESPACO in his book, clear as proof can be found in the book the poster of the former festival. The name was changed in 1972 FESPACO. Since 1979 the festival will take place as a biennial and since 1983, the film exhibition MICA ( Marché international du cinéma et de la télévision africains ) is aligned at the festival. 1983 also the biennially, alternately taking place with the film festival National Culture Week of La Semaine Nationale de la culture (SNC ) of Bobo-Dioulasso was introduced.

The best film will be awarded since 1972 with the Étalon de Yennenga ( German " Stallion of Yennenga ").
