Panama City is a city and also the county seat of Bay County in the U.S. state of Florida with 36 484 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

Panama City is adjacent to the cities of Springfield and Lynn Haven. The city is located 140 km west of Tallahassee at St. Andrews Bay, which forms part of the Intracoastal Waterway along the Gulf Coast.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 36 484 inhabitants distributed to 17,438 households. The population density was 687.1 inh. / Km ². 71.6 % of the population were white, 22.0% African American, 0.5% Native American and 1.6% Asian Americans. 1.3% were members of other ethnic groups and 2.9% in different ethnic groups. 5.1% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 27.9 % of all households lived in 27.9 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 58.2 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.28 persons and the average family size is 2.91 people.

23.3% of the population were younger than 20 years, 27.4 % were 20-39 years old, 27.5 % were 40-59 years old and 22.0 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 40 years. 49.1 % of the population were male and 50.9 % female.

The average annual income was $ 41,067, while 16.8 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 93.89 % of the population spoke Spanish, 3.10% and 3.01% had a different mother tongue.

Ironman Florida

In Panama City Ironman Florida is held every year since 1999 in November. In this triathlon over the Ironman distance is 3.86 km swim, 180.2 km cycling and cope 42.195 km running for the athletes.

Traffic

The city is the U.S. Highways 98 ( SR 30A) and 231 (SR 75 ) and by the Florida State Roads 77, 327, 390 and 391 crosses. The Tallahassee Regional Airport is located approximately 140 km east of the city.

Crime

The crime rate in 2010 was 467 points ( U.S. average: 266 points ) in the high range. There were five murders, five rapes, 78 robberies, 189 injuries, 508 burglaries, 1,785 thefts, 130 vehicle thefts and six arsons.
