Panama Hattie

Panama Hattie is a musical comedy with music and song lyrics by Cole Porter and a book by Herbert Fields and BG DeSylva. DeSylva produced the piece, which premiered took place on 30 October 1940 at the 46th Street Theatre in New York. With 501 performances, the musical was a great success. It was one of five Broadway musicals ( Anything Goes, Red, Hot and Blue, Du Barry Was a Lady, Something for the Boys) composed for the Cole Porter and in the Ethel Merman played the lead role. In another role Betty Hutton was seen. For the role of eight -year-old Geraldine Shirley Temple was originally provided. The first performance in London's West End was on November 4, 1943 at the Piccadilly Theatre and ran for 308 performances.

Content

Hattie Maloney is a sassy but kindhearted nightclub owner in the Panama Canal Zone, their clientele, especially sailors, not necessarily only interested in ship traffic. When they were in Nick Bullett, an officer, in love, wants to marry her too, she gets the chance for social advancement. The design, however, difficult; Hattie must gain the sympathy of Nick's eight -year-old daughter from his first marriage and Geraldine overcome the resistance of the higher layer, symbolized by Nick superiors Whitney Randolph. The former is achieved through their simple and unverbiegbaren character, the latter by preventing a bomb attack on the Canal Authority, in Randolph's daughter, Kitty Belle, is involved.
