Features

The wingspan of the butterfly is from 32 to 40 millimeters, you have gray-brown forewings in their midfield a silver-white character stands out in the form of the letter V with an overlying circle or line. A large and three small silver white dots align themselves toward the edge. The middle is limited by two double cross lines whitish, the inner pair describes an acute angle to the outside, the outer shaft running in a near of the apex. The hind wings are gray-brown without markings, slightly darkened at the hem. The thorax is hairy and furry provided with some tufts of hair, the proboscis is well developed.

Similar Species

Although espers meadow Argyle syllable Owl ( Panchrysia v - argenteum ) shows almost identical silver-white drawing elements on the front wings, but differs significantly by the red-brown color.

Distribution and habitat

Panchrysia ornata occurs through Siberia, Mongolia and further east on the Sikhote -Alin mountain ranges and Paektusan to Kamchatka and the Pacific coast from the Urals. The species was still detected at an altitude of 2400 meters. They settled prefers moist deciduous forests.

Way of life

The moths of Panchrysia ornata form a, in climatically favorable areas also have two generations per year. Main flight period are the months of July and August. The food plants of the caterpillars are currently unknown.
