Panellinios G.S.

Panellinios Athens (Greek Πανελλήνιος ) is a Greek sports club based in the east of the city center located in Athens Municipality Kipseli.

Basketball

History

The basketball department Panellinios was founded in 1929. In the first year the young team managed the feat, the Greek Championship to decide for themselves. In the following years, until the Second World War Panellinios was one of the best addresses in the Greek basketball. In addition to two championships in 1939 and 1940, this was also reflected in the second place by 1935.

Even after the end of the Second World War, the club was able to continue his old successes. In the period from 1946 to 1960 in 1953 could Panellinios, 1955 and 1957 once again win the Greek championship and prove three second and three third places. The championship of 1957 was awarded this in a playoff. Panellinios lay points with Olympiakos Piraeus at the end of the season on the first place in the table. The all-important game won Panellinios finally, despite injury concerns, with 62:60.

The player of this "Golden Team " formed at this time the backbone of the Greek national team, which was represented, among others, at the Olympic Games in Helsinki.

In the following years Panellinios was able to land on a regular basis at the end of the season among the best teams - for a championship it should but until today never reach again. The low point marked the season 1985 /1986. For the first time in the history of the club was relegated to the A2 league.
