Pangai

Pangai is a place in Tonga, which is the main town of Haapai archipelago. In the village, located on the west side of Lifuka, live about 1740 inhabitants.

Facts

The center of the village is dominated by the Catholic Church Siasi Katolika and Holopeka Road at the port. In addition, there are a few shops and a bank. The houses in the village were built in the colonial style for the most part.

The Lifuka Iceland Airport, the airport of the island, about five kilometers north of the town.

Attractions

The Methodist missionary Shirley Waldemar Baker, who served as prime minister in the country under Tonga's King George Tupou I died on November 16, 1903 in Pangai. His grave and a monument in his honor can be seen today in the cemetery Pangais.
