Panguipulli Lake

The Lago Panguipulli is a large lake in southern Chile.

It is located in the north of the XIV Region ( Región de los Ríos ). The lake is located between the cities of Panguipulli and Choshuenco.

The Lago Panguipulli has an area of ​​around 117 km ² ( at a length of 28.3 km and a width of 5 km) and a maximum depth of 268 m. The lake is an old glacial lake of glacial origin. To the east of the lake is of volcanic Choshuenco with 2415 m elevation and the volcano Mocho with 2422 m height.

The city is located on the Panguipulli western shore and is a tourist center. The lake is a deep blue and crystal clear, on the banks there are many coves and beaches. The abundance of fish is large, you start there, among other trout and salmon.

60 km northeast of Panguipulli lies the nature reserve of Reserva Nacional Mocho Choshuenco. The volcano Mocho last erupted in 1863. The area is densely wooded.

History

Discovered in 1553 Francisco de Villagra the lake. The settlement of the town Panguipulli began in 1885, it was officially founded in 1946.

Economy

Tourism, fishing and forestry play an important role in the area. The lake is ideal for sailing and fishing.
