Panhellenic Socialist Movement

The Panellinio Sosialistiko Kinima (Greek Πανελλήνιο Σοσιαλιστικό Κίνημα, Pan-Hellenic ( Greek = total ) Socialist movement ' ), short PASOK ( ΠΑΣΟΚ ) or PA.SO.K., is a social democratic party in Greece. It is part of the Party of European Socialists, and also a member of the Socialist International.

History

PASOK was founded on September 3, 1974 by Andreas Papandreou. It has its roots in more active during the dictatorship at home and abroad resistance groups who joined before or shortly after the founding of the Party of PASOK. These included, founded in 1968 by Papandreou in exile Panellinio Apeleftheriotiko Kinima ( Πανελλήνιο Απελευθερωτικό Κίνημα, Panhellenic Liberation Movement ' PAHs) Dimokratiki Amyna ( Δημοκρατική Άμυνα, Democratic defense ' DA), the Enosis Kendrou and other groups. The party won the parliamentary elections for the first time in 1981 with an absolute majority. After two terms there was an all-party government under the conservative New Democracy ( New Democracy ), which also provided the head of government. 1993 again won the PASOK, but could not build on the earlier successes. The government was overshadowed by old scandals, in addition, the health of Andreas Papandreou deteriorated dramatically. Three years later, Kostas Simitis took over the presidency of the party, which began extensive reforms and infrastructure projects and led Greece into the European Economic and Monetary Union. As of 2004, the poll numbers predicted a slump in voter support, a new generation was introduced and Giorgos Andrea Papandreou took over the party leadership. Although this is the son of the party founder, but is associated with the reforming wing. In the 2004 election, PASOK lost the majority of the New Democracy party, even after the 2007 election she remained in opposition.

From the early parliamentary elections on October 4, 2009, PASOK emerged as the most powerful force; it reached 43.94 % of the vote, won 160 seats, the absolute majority of seats in Parliament 300köpfigen and thus left the New Democracy of Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis clear. Papandreou became prime minister. He entered on November 9, 2011 Back in the Greek sovereign debt crisis.

In the parliamentary election on 6 May 2012, the PASOK was punished drastically for the instrumental represented by their austerity and reform measures to address the financial and economic crisis. She lost over 70 % of their voters and was with 13.18% of the vote and 41 seats only the third strongest party. Evangelos Venizelos, after being the Chairman of New Democracy and SYRIZA each failed to form a coalition government tasked with forming a government. Although initially an agreement with Antonis Samaras, leader of the Conservative, Fotis Kouvelis and, Chairman of DIMAR, seemed unreachable, the attempt failed due to the condition Fotis Kouvelis ', that SYRIZA must be involved in the government.

Since this election thus provided no working majority, found on June 17 again instead of parliamentary elections. From these, the PASOK as the third strongest party went further losses forth again, with their share of the vote decreased to 12.28% and they scored 33 mandates. They then participated in a government with the conservative New Democracy party and the moderate Left Party Dimokratiki Aristera.

In the 2014 European elections PASOK occurs as part of the center-left electoral alliance Eliá (Greek Ελιά German: Olive tree ), whose name is obviously inspired by the Italian L' Ulivo. Elia is widely regarded as barely clad reestablishment of the weakened PASOK, as something to be reunited with the PASOK RIKSSY the former PASOK minister Andreas Loverdos by the numerous spin-offs.
