Panoply

Panoply (Greek πανοπλία ) referred to in the art of the Renaissance and Baroque periods a decorative composition of elements of an ancient armor, shields, weapons and flags.

Originally designated the term equipping a Greek hoplites. In ancient Rome, the captured weapons were placed decoratively under the arms of the defeated commander after a victory. In the architecture of the Renaissance and Baroque carved in stone Panoplien were used as elements of the decoration of the facades and interiors. The Panoplien often appeared again represented in Arms and Military awards.
