Panos Panagiotopoulos

Panagiotis ( Panos ) Panagiotopoulos (Greek Παναγιώτης ( Πάνος ) Παναγιωτόπουλος, born November 12, 1957 in Athens ) is a Greek politician. He was since June 21, 2012 Minister of Defence in the government of Prime Minister Andonis Samaras and changed in June 2013 in the Ministry of Culture.

Biography

Panagiotopoulos studied at the National Technical University of Athens engineering, then law at the Law Faculty of the University of Athens and the University of Paris VIII, Vincennes.

Professional Panagiotopoulos worked as a lawyer and as a journalist for radio and television stations and newspapers such as Kathimerini, To Vima, Eleftheros typos, Apogevmatini and Vradini. In his TV show "Profile", he interviewed numerous personalities such as the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I, the Russian President Boris Yeltsin and the PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan.

Already in his youth, Panagiotopoulos involved in the youth wing of the conservative New Democracy. For the first time he was elected in the parliamentary elections in 2000 in the Greek parliament, and since each re-elected. In 2007 he was Managing Director of the ND parliamentary fraction.

After the electoral victory of the New Democracy party in June 2012 Panagiotopoulos was appointed as defense minister in the cabinet of Andonis Samaras.
