Little Swallow Swift ( Panyptila cayennensis )

Panyptila is a species of bird in the family of sailors ( Apodidae ). The two widely differing in size species of the genus are both in the Neotropic ecozone native to the Great Swallow sailor is restricted to Central America, during the Little Swallow sailor has a large neotropical distribution.

Features

The body length of the Great Swallow glider is 18 to 20 cm, that of the little Swallow glider at about 13 centimeters. Both species show a remarkably similar mottled plumage. The shape is very graceful with long, pointed wings. Both have a distinctly forked tail, which is often kept closed. The body is slim and streamlined, although the head is quite large. The representatives of the genus can be quite easily distinguished from the other sailors types of Latin America, the closest in shape and color are the Tachornis species, in contrast to these, the mottled coloring of the underside more contrast and not so blurry, also the flight is not so discontinuous and looks much more graceful.

The genus is one of the least controversial sailors genres. It shows a close relationship to the genus Tachornis.
