Steel conduit threads are a group of historical threads with a flank angle of 80 °. They are (short Stapa pipe thread) also referred to as a tank thread ( PG) or steel armored pipe thread. Since the steel armored pipes used are usually relatively thin, the thread depth is not very large. The exact specification of this type of thread is laid down in the DIN standard DIN 40430.

The scope of PG threads was in the range of electrical installations such as cable glands on electrical devices, control cabinets, junction boxes and connectors. The PG thread type is being replaced more and more in these areas by metric thread according to EN 60423. PG thread also find application in bioreactors, such as the PG 13.5 thread for screwing sensors.
