Paolo Emilio Taviani

Paolo Emilio Taviani ( born November 6, 1912 in Genoa, † 18 June 2001 ) was an Italian politician.

Life

Taviani was one of the founders of the Christian Democracy, for which he belonged from 1948 to 1976 the Camera dei deputati. From 1953 to 1958 he was Secretary of Defense. From 1961 to 1968, 1972 to 1974, he headed the Ministry of Interior. Francesco Cossiga (DC) in 1991 appointed him senator for life. In addition to his political career Taviani worked as an economist and university professor and published alongside economic work also books written about Christopher Columbus. In 2001 he died at the age of 88 years on the effects of a stroke.
