Ronald Paolo Montero Iglesias ( born September 3, 1971 in Montevideo, Uruguay ) is a former Uruguayan football player. His main position was central defender.

Association

Paolo Montero, the son of Julio Montero Castillo, his professional career began at Peñarol Montevideo in Uruguay, where he played until 1992. By the end of 1991 it was known that he would leave the club as of June 1992. After differences with coach Ricardo Ortíz he was thrown in December of that year from the squad. In the summer of 1992 he moved to Atalanta in the Italian Serie A, where he made ​​his debut on September 8, 1992. Due to his strong performances he was obliged in 1996 by Juventus. There he played for nine years at the highest level, and together with Ciro Ferrara in the late 1990s one of the best interior defenses in the world. In summer 2005, he moved back to South America to the Argentine club San Lorenzo. As his former teammate in June 2006 made ​​a suicide attempt at Juve and good friend Gianluca Pessotto, Montero immediately flew to Europe to visit him and he remained in Turin until this was after several weeks out of danger. From 2006 to 2007 he was playing at his home club Peñarol in Montevideo, after Montero ended his active career.

National

Montero took the Uruguayan U -20 team at the U-20 South American Championship in 1991 and finished with the team's third tournament rank.
