Paolo Pandolfo

Paolo Pandolfo is an Italian viol player, who has turned to since about 1980, the historical performance practice.

Since Pandolfo wanted to be a jazz musician originally, he first studied double bass and guitar at the Conservatory in Rome. Only after completion of these studies and concert tours with the Youth Orchestra of the European Union, he turned to the mid- 1970s, the viola da gamba. In 1979 he founded with violinist Enrico Gatti and harpsichordist Rinaldo Alessandrini Baroque music ensemble " La Stravaganza ". In 1981 he moved to Switzerland in order to deepen at the Schola Cantorum with Jordi Savall his studies. Between 1982 and 1990 he was a member of Savall's ensemble Hespèrion XX.

Since 1989, Pandolfo is a professor of viola da gamba at the Schola Cantorum in Basel, a position which held August Wenzinger and Jordi Savall in front of him. Since 1981, he gave numerous concerts and regularly makes sound recordings, which he founded in 1992 with the "Ensemble Labyrinto "
