Paolo Pizzetti

Paolo Pizzetti ( born July 24, 1860 in Parma, † April 14, 1918 in Pisa ) was an Italian surveyor, astronomer and geophysicist.

Pizzetti studied in Rome and was there in 1880 after graduating assistant. With Giuseppe Pisati and Enrico Pucci, he led by gravimetric measurements. In 1886 he was in a contest Professor of Geodesy in Genoa and from 1900 he was professor of geodesy at the University of Pisa.

He wrote the article Higher Geodesy in the Encyclopedia of Mathematical Sciences. Was published in 1905 in Bologna be Trattato di Geodesia teoretica. He also dealt with astronomical measurement errors and with Somigliani with the establishment of a reference Schwereellipsoids the earth.

Pizzetti wrote important works on the theory of errors.

A lunar crater is named after him.
