Paolo Quagliati

Paolo Quagliati (* 1555 in Chioggia, † November 16, 1628 in Rome) was an Italian composer and organist in Rome.

Life and work

After his musical training (presumably in Venice), pulled Paolo Quagliati 1574 to Rome, where he worked as an organist in various churches. He was then (after 1600) a job at Cardinal Alessandro Ludovisi, who as Pope Gregory XV. 1616 went down in history. This put him in the rank of Apostolic protonotary.

Quagliati created sacred and secular vocal and instrumental music in great variety. His first publication dates from 1585. An important work is " La sfera Armoniosa " ( Rome, 1623), it consists of not less than 25 parts, including vocal solos, duets, all of which are accompanied by accompanying violin parts. Some of the sets correspond to a native of Northern Italy "style concertato ". He wrote this work for the wedding of Isabella Gesualdo, a niece of the Pope and daughter of the infamous composer Prince Carlo Gesualdo.
