Paolo Tiralongo

Paolo Tiralongo ( born July 8, 1977 in Avola ) is an Italian racing cyclist.

Paolo Tiralongo in 1998 took part successfully in the U23 edition of the Giro d' Italia. He finished the Baby Giro in third place overall. In 2000, he turned professional with the Italian cycling team Fassa Bortolo. He went there for three years and then moved to Ceramiche Panaria. His best result in his first season there was a second place in the Giro stage behind Kurt Asle Arvesen -. Since 2006 Tiralongo riding for the Italian ProTour team Lampre- Fondital. At the Giro d'Italia, he was from a breakaway group out third in the 14th stage, just seven seconds behind Luis Felipe Laverde. In 2010 he joined the team Astana. In 2011 he succeeded shortly before his 34th birthday, the first professional success in the Giro d' Italia when he won the 19th stage to Macugnaga before his last year's teammate Alberto Contador. A year later, at the Giro d' Italia already his next professional victory. As in the year before he could be at a mountain top finish, this time in Rocca di Cambio, in front of a top favorite, Michele Scarponi prevail.
