Papa Charlie McCoy

Charles " Papa Charlie" McCoy ( born May 26, 1909 in Jackson, Mississippi; † July 26, 1950 in Chicago, Illinois) was an American blues guitarist, singer and mandolin player. He was the younger brother of Kansas Joe McCoy.

Charles McCoy was known as " Papa Charlie". With his band Mississippi Hot Footers, he appeared in his home area. He accompanied, among others, Tommy Johnson and played with the Mississippi Sheiks. McCoy moved to Chicago, where he had two bands, Papa Charlie 's Boys and with his brother Joe, the Harlem Hamfats. He also played in the band from Memphis Minnie. During World War II McCoy was drafted into the army. Then he was attacked health and eventually died in 1950, just months after his brother.
