Papal conclave, August 1978

The conclave of 1978 was held from August 25 to August 26, 1978 in Rome. In the conclave of the Patriarch of Venice, Cardinal Albino Luciani as Pope John Paul I was elected. It took barely a day after his election until the evening of August 26, the new Pope appeared around 19:00 CEST clock for the first time on the loggia of St. Peter's Basilica. He was the successor of Pope Paul VI. In this conclave for the first time was in 1970 introduced an age limit for the Cardinals ( under 80 years at the beginning of the Holy See is vacant ).
