Papanui Highschool

Papanui High School ( PHS) is a secondary school ( years 9-13) in Papanui, a suburb of Christchurch, New Zealand.

History

The school was founded as a " Papanui Technical College " 1936 was converted into a "High School " in 1949. In the moment (2011 ) Mrs. Welsh, who took over after Denis Pyatt is the headmistress. Mr. Pyatt continue to take care of the international students. Since about 2000, the school's reputation has improved in public. In the past, fewer students passed the NZQA standards, and the University of visit than the national average. 2006 66% of 11 - graders have achieved NCEA Level 1. This number increased in 2007 to 70 % in 2008 and to 75%. The success in NCEA Level 2 has reached national standard.

Multiculturalism

Asian, Maori and other cultures are maintained at the school. The school accepts foreign students from Asia and Germany on a quarter to a full year. At the Papanui High School, there is also a separate office, which is open during the entire school for these students.

Achievements

  • In 2007, both the Boys and the Girls Senior Touch team have qualified for the national competition.
  • The school has also successfully participated in a national physics competition with a 3rd place at the IYPT.
