Papastratos

Papa Stratos (Greek Παπαστράτος ) is a Greek tobacco and cigarette manufacturers. 2003, the company was acquired by Philip Morris.

History

Evangelos Papa Stratos Founded in 1930, a cigarette factory in Piraeus Greek and processed tobacco. In 1933 he founded a second in Berlin, the Hellas cigarette factory, whose building was designed by Martin Punitzer. The Hellas brand was advertised with great effort. The cigarettes were initially produced only from Greek tobacco, while in Germany only mixtures were smoked. A change in the types of cigarettes produced could not stop the decline of the brand. Since Papa Stratos also got problems with the Nazis, he decided to close the factory in 1936. In 1937 he acquired the tobacco factory Nestor Gianaclis in Cairo. 1940 died Evangelos Papa Stratos, shortly after the Nazis had confiscated the entire tobacco crop in Greece.

The factory closed in Cairo in 1955. Greece led Papa Stratos 1957, a filter cigarette. A collaboration with Reemtsma began in 1975 given up in favor of cooperation with Philip Morris. In 2003, Philip Morris company.

In numerous novels Greece Papa Stratos cigarettes occur. The cigarettes Papa Stratos No. 1 ( Assos ) and No. 15 were issued in South East Europe to SS members as payment.
