Add to Papoose Peak Jumps in Squaw Valley, California, which jump competitions of the VIII Olympic Winter Games were held in 1960.

History

There are few validated information on this ski jumping facility. But since the whole ski area did not exist in the Olympic bid in 1955, it is assumed that the jumps were built in 1955-1960. Constructs were apparently Heini Klopfer of Oberstdorf architects.

Since there is still no evidence for international competitions on the hills is to assume that they were shut down soon after, and fell again.

Entrenchment

The jump was 90 meters long. Further technical details are not known.

Olympic champion in 1960 was surprisingly Helmut Recknagel from the GDR. The completely unknown Recknagel launched for the joint German team and surprised the judges so much that they apparently did not even have a country flag presentation ceremony.

Further jumps

There were at Papoose Peak still a K60 and a K40, they too are now in ruins.
