The Papua Papageiamadine ( Erythrura papuana ) is a species of the family of finches. We distinguish between no subspecies.

Description

The Papua Papageiamadine is very similar to the Three Colored Papageiamadine. They must be distinguished from these significant only by their body size and powerful beak. It was considered so long as a subspecies of this Prachtfinkenart until it was found that the two species occur partly in the same distribution area.

The males have a indigo blue head, a green body, a red tail and black beak. The females are usually similar colored males, but have a less intense blue feathered head and the blue is less extensive. Young birds are much matt colored than the adult birds.

Circulation area and way of life

The distribution area of ​​Papua New Guinea's mountains are the Papageiamadine on the Vogelkop Peninsula, in the field of Paniaiseen and at Mount Tafa, the Wharton Mountains and the Owen Stanley Mountains. In the southeast of New Guinea, the Tri-color Papageiamadine and Papua Papageiamadine represent each mosaic.

The habitat of Papua Papageiamadine are forest edges and clearings at altitude 800-2000 meters above sea level. About their life and reproduction is from field observations almost nothing is known. In the southeast of New Guinea, the breeding season seems to start from the end of May.

Attitude

The Papua Papageiamadine was first introduced to Europe until 1969. In birds offered commercially under that name there are sometimes a three-color Papageiamadinen. According to reports, the attitude Papua Papageiamadine is calmer and more trusting than the three-color Papageiamadine.
