P- cresidine, or 6-methoxy -m-toluidine is a chemical compound from the group of cresidines and Anisidinderivate.

Production and representation

P- cresidine can be produced discontinuously by the catalytic hydrogenation of 3- nitro-4- methoxytoluene.

Use

P- cresidine is used as an intermediate in the production of dyes ( as a coupling component for azo dyes ), and pigments. The substance is not released from textiles or leather articles which may come a long time with the human skin directly in contact are (Appendix 1 of the Consumer Goods Ordinance ) after reductive cleavage of azo groups.

Safety

P- cresidine is classified as carcinogenic category 2.
