Paradise Lost (Band)

Paradise Lost [ ˌ pæɹədaɪslɒst ] is an English band from Halifax, West Yorkshire. Originally from the Death Metal coming, she practiced in the early 1990s from a decisive influence on the development of the Death Doom and Gothic Metal. The band took its name from the epic poem Paradise Lost by the English poet John Milton.

Currently, the group consists of singer Nick Holmes, guitarists Gregor Mackintosh and Aaron Aedy, drummer Adrian Erlandsson and bassist Steven Edmondson.

Band History

Influenced by groups such as Celtic Frost and Candlemass, Nick Holmes, Gregor Mackintosh and Matthew Archer decided in late 1987 to establish Paradise Lost. The following year, Aaron Aedy and Steve Edmondson completed the band. Edmondson took over doing the bass, so that Holmes, who initially this function exercised by the way, was able to concentrate on the song and the lyrics. By 1989, three demos were released: the rehearsed in December 1988 Paradise Lost Tape and Frozen Illusion and Plains of Desolation. In this Paradise Lost Death Metal with Doom influences celebrated and made to order in the English Death Metal scene alongside groups such as Bolt Thrower quickly made a name. They signed in the consequence of a contract with the British label Peaceville Records and released there in 1990, the debut album Lost Paradise, on which they played similar to the demos gloomy Doom-/Death-Metal. The following year the album was released Gothic, a reference work that should be a whole genre, namely the gothic metal, its name. Although the death metal influences were still predominantly in the vocals on this album, female vocals of guest singer Sarah Marrion has been used now for three songs, orchestral passages and keyboard sounds were first used. By the third album Shades of God took place in 1992 switching to Music for Nations. The old, ornate Logo - Trademark of many Death Metal bands - was gone, and the sound had changed compared to the two previous albums, especially to Nick Holmes ' singing a departure from Death Metal was evident, inasmuch can this album on likely to be described as Doom Metal with slight death metal influences. The song included on the CD version as a bonus track As I Die is one of the most successful of the band. On the Icon album published in 1993 there were hardly any death metal influences heard. In 1995, the band released the album Draconian Times, reaching within the metal scene its greatest popularity, among other things, they played in front of 120,000 spectators as the headliner at Dynamo Open Air

From the mid- 1990s, the band changed their style with every new release significantly, most notably the stronger involvement of electronic elements provided an orientation. So surprised the 1997 album One Second by partly bedächtigeres, but on the other hand also more dynamic songwriting. Reviewers feared older fans might be offended, but the panel also called a "round and exciting rock album of the highest class ."

I myself just hear everything from thrash to pop to classical. If a song is good and you love him, you should have it. "

As a result, the band turned to their album Believe in Nothing published in 2001 and published in 2002 plate Symbol of Life again successively harder to tones, but without returning to their roots in metal.

End of February 2005 Paradise Lost released their tenth album by the band, simply titled. In the limited output string dub mix of Over the Madness and Do not Belong were additionally included.

The eleventh studio album, In Requiem was released on 18 May 2007. Yet before the official sale date of the magazine Metal Hammer has named In Requiem album of the month. It has influences from Shades of God or Icon to, neglect, as well as Nick Holmes said, not Paradise Lost's musical accomplishments over the past ten years. As with the two previous albums, it was next to a standard version or a limited version, which contained two bonus tracks. In November 2007, a DVD documentary titled Over the Madness was published.

On 23 May 2008, a live DVD and CD with the title The Anatomy of Melancholy appeared. The concert this took place in London on 12 April 2007. In August 2008, drummer Jeff Singer explained his departure from Paradise Lost for personal reasons. The position of drummer was occupied in March 2009 with Adrian Erlandsson, who was already active in At the Gates, Nemhain, The Haunted, Samsa's dream and Cradle of Filth.

On 25 September 2009 released their twelfth studio album, Faith Divides Us in Germany and Europe - Death Unites Us. On the following European tour Gregor Mackintosh was due to a case of illness in his family by Milly Evans, keyboardist of Terrorvision replaced.

The Draconian Times MMXI DVD was released on November 4, 2011. In addition to various bonus material is a recording of a concert from 1 April 2011 is included in London. To mark the 15th anniversary of this studio album Draconian Times from 1995 was played completely live.

Tragic Idol is the 13th studio album by the band. It was released on April 20, 2012 in Germany, on April 23 in the rest of Europe and on 24 April 2012 in the United States.

For the 25th band anniversary Paradise Lost published on 18 October 2013, the compilation Tragic Illusion 25 ( The Rarities ). This album contains the new song Loneliness Remains and newly recorded versions of Gothic and Our Savior.
