Band History

2002 - 2004: Founding and record deal

2002, at the age of 13, Hayley Williams moved from her hometown Meridian, Mississippi to Franklin, Tennessee, where she attended a private school in which she met brothers Josh and Zac Farro. Shortly after her move to the new town of Williams also began taking singing lessons with Brett Manning. Before Paramore was founded, Williams and later bassist of the band, Jeremy Davis operated in a funk band called The Factory, which mainly played cover songs. 2004 Paramore Josh Farro (guitar), Zac Farro ( drums), and Jeremy Davis (bass ) was then officially by Hayley Williams ( vocals), founded. Previously, the Farro brothers and Davis had already made music together, but they had not found a member at that time, which could take over the vocals. A little later came Williams' neighbor Jason Bynum as the rhythm guitarist for the newly formed music group to do so. According to Williams, the name comes from the band's mother's maiden name of one of their former bass player who had them liked. Only a year later they found out that the band name is a homophone of the Anglo- French term " paramour " (par amour ), which lovers / r or lover / means in.

To her record deal, the group came by singer Williams, which had already been taken by Atlantic Records in 2003 as a solo artist under contract. Williams himself was presented by Kent Marcus and Jim Zumwalt, who were both lawyers of managers Dave Steunebrink and Richard Williams, the A & R of Atlantic Records, Tom Storms, . Steunebrink and Richard Williams had originally discovered and Hayley Williams already signed a production contract with her, which was later bought out by Atlantic Records to make Williams a pop singer. According to Steve Robertson, the A & R of the band at Atlantic, Williams fought back, however, opposed this plan because they would rather make alternative rock music with a band behind him. The chairman of the label, Julie Greenwald, finally decided to meet Williams' request. The management of the group consisted exclusively of Dave Steunebrink, Jeff Hanson and his assistant Mark Mercado.

Originally, the band should release their music under the label Atlantic Records, but decided the marketing department of the label that a smaller record label for the image of the group is better. Finally, it was one of the sub-labels of Atlantic Records, Fueled by Ramen, selected to publish the music of Paramore. Then signed in April 2005, the whole band a recording contract with Atlantic Records and Fueled by Ramen, after the CEO of the latter labels, John Janick, the group had observed in some live performances.
